SIMILAN ISLANDS

Our Similan liveaboard customers will be picked up at their hotel or at the airport in the afternoon, and taken to our pier at 7:00pm to board the boat. Most days we will depart around 9pm after a full boat briefing and a full hearty dinner. Customers usually spend the time after dinner getting to know their fellow passengers and dive staff who they will be spending the next 4 days with

And you Similan adventure begins…

WAKE UP

You’ll wake at 7am by a gentle knock from our dive crew and some freshly brewed coffee. Most people stumble out of bed bleary-eyed and get greeted by staff who give you a full safety and dive briefing and help you in to your equipment and get you in to the water.

DIVE ONE

Our guests find being immersed in the warm tropical water is the absolute best way of waking up.

Dive groups are a maximum of 4 people, unless friends request to dive together.

The first dive of the trip will be a check dive so we can check the divers in each group are well matched in terms of ability and air consumption.

At the end of this and every dive, you and your group will surface and indicate to our dingy that you’re ready to be picked up. This dingy will pick you up and take you back to the liveaboard. No surface swims, ever.

EAT

As with every dive, once back on board, our staff will help you out of your equipment and place it in the racks for you. You can grab a quick freshwater rinse from the shower on deck and then head up to the outdoor eating areas where a hot breakfast awaits you. Our staff will rinse your gear and fill your tanks while you eat.

BEACH VISIT

After breakfast, we usually offer an activity for the day. Usually, this involves taking the dinghy to the shore of one of the island where you can lay on the beach, snorkel with turtles, go hiking, or just do nothing at all.

Some customers prefer to stay out of the heat and spend their time in the air-conditioned lounge watching one of our DVDs in stock. Sun worshipers may decide to skip the ride to the beach and spend all their time on the sun deck. Others may prefer just to stay in the shaded decks reading or relaxing with the other passengers.

This is your holiday and we wish to accommodate for any activity that you wish for.

DIVE TWO

Dive 2 is at about 11:00am and most people wake for this one a little more refreshed. Dive groups might be reorganized to put divers of similar skill levels together, based on observations of the check-out dive.

Obviously we never split up people who want to dive together.

EAT

Lunch is served after dive two.

DIVE THREE

Dive three is usually about 2:00pm, followed by the entire afternoon to relax or go to the beach.

EAT

An afternoon snack is served at around 4:30 (for any one who hasn’t eaten enough so far in the day!)

DIVE FOUR

For those interested, the night dive is normally about 7:00pm.

For anyone who is not an advanced diver, you can do your Adventure Diving Night training, or even take the full advanced course while on the boat.

EAT

After the night dive, dinner is served and after that some people head straight to their cabins, others prefer to relax on deck having a beer and talking about the days dives and discussing what adventures they hope to have on tomorrows dives.

As is typical day on a four day cruise on day three there is no beach to go to, as the dives are at rocky pinnacles, so people just relax on the boat. This is where having a nice big boat really comes in beautifully. There’s always plenty of room for everyone.

On the final day of the cruise, we only make dives one and two, and return to our pier about 3:00pm. Where there is usually a lot of photo taking and email exchanging among new found friends, and after some goodbyes to each other and to the boat we drive our customers back to their hotels.

SIMILAN DIVE SITES

SIMILAN DIVE SITE INFO

THE SIMILAN ISLANDS

The Similan Islands National Marine Park lies directly west, making Khao Lak a great starting point for your trip. Each island is surrounded by thriving coral reef, starting in the shallows just a few metres from the beach, making snorkeling easy and safe for all.

Meanwhile divers have access to a wide variety of deeper sites, from rocky canyons and swim through’s to stunning coral gardens. Each island also has view points and jungle walks for the active and glorious beaches for those who want to take life easy.

A little north of the Similan Islands, but still part of the same marine park lies Koh Bon and Koh Tachai, stand alone islands with fantastic diving opportunities. Koh Bon features a long sloping reef with cleaning stations favoured by large Manta Ray’s that fly in for their spa treatments to the joy of us divers. On the south side of Koh Tachai lies a submerged pinnacle with great coral, resident leopard sharks and dramatic dive scenery.

SURIN NATIONAL PARK

Further north, in the Surin Marine Park, lies Richelieu Rock – named by the famous Jacques Cousteau – arguably the best dive site in Thailand.

It’s a dramatic series of rocks in a rough horseshoe shape that features the best chance for whale shark and stunning macro-life with ornate ghost pipefish, tigertail seahorse, harlequin shrimp and many other goodies. The macro photographers “wet” dream.

Frequent schools of barracuda, mating cuttlefish and various other pelagics round off a site that never ceases to amaze.
